Garden Mums
Chrysanthemum morifolium · Native to China
The classic fall flower — resilient, richly colored, and lightly spicy-scented. A neat dome that bursts into hundreds of blooms and draws bees and butterflies.
Available in 8, 10 & 12 inchCare
Light
Mums need lots of direct sunlight — at least 6 hours a day. They bloom best with about 8 hours of light and 16 hours of darkness, which is what triggers their fall flowering.
Water
Because they sit in full sun, mums are thirsty. Water in the morning and again in the evening in hot weather, checking that the soil isn’t already wet first. If kept indoors they appreciate extra humidity.
Soil, Feeding & Temperature
Use a well-draining mix (about 1/3 potting soil, 1/3 coarse sand, 1/3 peat moss). Feed monthly with a liquid fertilizer, stopping before the buds open. They do best between 62–72°F (hardy roughly 20–95°F).

Plant Bio
Chrysanthemum morifolium · the classic Garden Mum
Garden mums, Chrysanthemum morifolium, originate in China and have been cultivated for centuries — today they’re the signature plant of autumn, filling porches, steps, and gardens with color as the season turns.
Each plant forms a neat, rounded dome that, come fall, all but disappears under hundreds of blooms in warm gold, bronze, burgundy, orange, pink, and white, carrying a faint spicy scent.
They’re sun-lovers and heavy drinkers: give them at least six hours of direct sun and steady moisture (often twice-daily watering in the heat), plus a well-draining, peat-rich mix and a monthly feed until the buds show.
Cheerful and pollinator-friendly, a mum delivers weeks of dense color right when the rest of the garden is winding down — just keep it away from pets, as mums are toxic if chewed.
