Care

Light

Thrives in bright, indirect light — great on windowsills or in spots with filtered sun — and adapts well to typical indoor lighting. Avoid harsh midday sun, which can scorch the leaves.

Water

Water only when the soil is completely dry. Its thick, upright leaves efficiently store moisture, making it very drought-tolerant. Use a pot with good drainage holes to avoid root rot.

Soil & Feeding

Use a well-draining cactus or succulent soil, and fertilize lightly once a month during the spring and summer growing season.

Quick Tip

It produces offset “pups” at the base — leave them to form a cluster, or pot them up as new plants.

Plant Bio

Haworthiopsis fasciata ‘Big Band’ · a Zebra Plant cultivar

Zebra Plant ‘Big Band’ is a cultivar of Haworthiopsis fasciata (long known as Haworthia fasciata), the true Zebra Plant from South Africa. Haworthias are close relatives of aloes and gasterias and rank among the easiest, most shade-tolerant succulents to keep indoors.

Like all zebra plants it forms a rosette of stiff, upright, dark-green leaves banded on the outside with raised white markings. ‘Big Band’ is selected for the boldest version of that look: wide, pronounced white horizontal stripes that stand out sharply against the deep green, giving the whole rosette a crisp, architectural, almost striped-pottery quality.

It stays small and tidy, clustering slowly with offsets, and tolerates lower indoor light better than most succulents — which is exactly why it’s such a reliable desk or windowsill plant.

Care is easy: bright indirect light, gritty soil, and water only when fully dry.

How is it different from a standard Zebra Plant?

  • Its white stripes are wider and bolder — the “Big Band” look.
  • It keeps the same tight, upright, architectural rosette.
  • It shares the same tough, shade-tolerant, pet-friendly nature.

Note: Haworthias are generally considered non-toxic and pet-safe, but are grown for ornament rather than eating. Overwatering is the main thing to avoid.
