Plant Bio

Mammillaria mammillaris · also called the Nipple Cactus

Mammillaria mammillaris is native to the dry coastal areas of Venezuela and Colombia, as well as several Caribbean islands — making it one of the few cacti with true Caribbean origins.

Its small, globular stem is covered in rounded tubercles tipped with prominent white woolly areoles, giving the plant a distinctly soft, fluffy appearance that belies its spiny nature.

In the growing season it produces small, attractive flowers in shades of pink to cream, followed by bright red berries that add another season of visual interest.

What makes it special?

  • One of the few Mammillarias with Caribbean island origins — a genuinely unusual native range.
  • The white woolly areoles give it a uniquely soft, cloud-like appearance.
  • Produces colorful red berries after flowering — an added bonus season.

Note: Has fine spines — handle with care. Keep away from children and pets. Grown for ornamental purposes only.
