‘Un Pico’ is a cultivar of Mammillaria spinosissima selected for producing a single long, prominent central spine per areole rather than the multiple centrals of the parent species. “Un Pico” is Spanish for “one spike.”
The effect is a dramatically different visual pattern from the typical Mammillaria spinosissima — instead of a mass of interlocking spines, each areole has one bold, prominent spike surrounded by white radials, creating an orderly, architectural look.
It blooms with the same rings of pink flowers as its parent and is equally easy to grow — a collector’s piece that is still practical enough for any windowsill.
