Care

Light

Sansevieria is very hardy. It grows fastest in bright, filtered light but tolerates low light and even fluorescent lighting — perfect for an office.

Water

Water only when the soil is dry, then water deeply until it drips from the drainage holes. Be careful not to overwater and never let it sit in water, which causes root rot.

Soil & Feeding

Grows best in a sandy, well-draining mix but adapts to most soils. It’s slow-growing and needs no pruning; fertilizing is optional (a couple of feeds in spring and summer speeds growth).

Plant Bio

Sansevieria trifasciata ‘Sayuri’ · a silvery Snake Plant

Sayuri is an elegant, muted-color form of the classic snake plant, Sansevieria (now also classed as Dracaena), whose species hail from tropical West Africa. Instead of the bold green-and-yellow of common snake plants, Sayuri’s slender upright leaves are a soft, silvery green with subtle frosted striping — a calmer, more modern look.

What hasn’t changed is its legendary toughness. Sansevierias are among the most forgiving houseplants in the world: they handle bright light or shade, dry indoor air, and long stretches without water, thanks to their thick, moisture-holding leaves.

The only real way to harm one is to overwater it, so let the soil dry fully between drinks, use a sandy, well-draining mix, and never let it sit in water. It’s slow-growing, needs no pruning, and is a well-known air purifier.

Sleek, hardy, and near-indestructible — just keep it away from pets and children, as snake plants are toxic if chewed.

How is Sayuri different from a common snake plant?

  • Soft, silvery-green foliage rather than bold green/yellow.
  • Same tough, drought-proof, low-light nature.
  • Slow-growing, air-purifying, and architectural.
  • Toxic if ingested — keep out of reach.

Note: Toxic if ingested. Keep away from pets and children. Grown for ornamental purposes and not intended for human or animal consumption. Check local restrictions before planting outdoors.
