TENDER LOVING CARE
Ficus Lyrata Column is excellent at purifying the air of harmful toxins such as: formaldehyde and benzene (which is found in detergents, plastics and pesticides), trichloroethylene (found in dry cleaning solvents), toluene (which is found in paint thinner and nail polish), ammonia and, of course, carbon dioxide.
This plant requires bright, filtered light – the more light the better. It needs to be rotated about every 2 months to ensure even growth.
Water when the top inch of the soil is dry. Water thoroughly until the water drains out of the bottom but make sure it doesn’t sit in the water. They require a lot of humidity so either put them with a lot of other plants or set the pot on a tray of gravel and water. Again, make sure the pot doesn’t sit in the water.
Because the leaves are so big they need to be dusted regularly to ensure it can absorb the light. They are sensitive to drafts and should not be moved. Sudden changes can cause their leaves to drop.
These plants need lots of nutrients so need to be fertilized regularly. Follow the instructions on a general purpose fertilizer package.
