Masson Farms of New Mexico operates one of the largest geothermal-heated greenhouse facilities in the U.S. — roughly 24 acres of climate-controlled growing space in Radium Springs, producing 30+ categories of potted plants.

Position Summary

The Grower Trainee works directly with Masson Farms’ growing team to learn the science and craft of producing high-quality potted plants at scale. This role provides mentored, hands-on experience across the full crop cycle in a geothermal-heated, controlled-environment greenhouse, with a path toward becoming a full grower.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist growers with daily crop care: watering, feeding, monitoring, spacing, and pruning.
  • Scout crops for pests, disease, and nutritional issues, and support integrated pest management (IPM) programs.
  • Monitor and help manage greenhouse climate factors — temperature, humidity, light, and irrigation.
  • Support propagation, transplanting, and crop scheduling activities.
  • Record crop data and observations to track plant health and growth.
  • Learn and apply best practices in fertilization, media, and plant nutrition.

Qualifications

  • Degree, coursework, or hands-on experience in Horticulture, Plant & Environmental Sciences, Agronomy, or a related field.
  • Genuine interest in commercial plant production.
  • Willingness to work hands-on in a greenhouse environment.
  • Reliability, curiosity, and strong observation skills.

Preferred / Nice to Have

  • Coursework in plant science, soils, or greenhouse management.
  • Prior greenhouse, nursery, or gardening experience.

What You Will Learn

Trainees develop into knowledgeable growers, learning crop scheduling, plant nutrition, climate management, and pest control while understanding what it takes to produce consistent, retail-ready plants at commercial scale.
