Plant Bio

Peperomia caperata ‘Rosso’ · also called Emerald Ripple Pepper or Radiator Plant

Peperomia Rosso is a striking cultivar of Peperomia caperata, a compact evergreen from the tropical rainforests of Brazil. Bred for color, it takes the deeply rippled leaves of the species and pairs glossy emerald tops with rich, wine-red undersides.

The leaves are narrow, pointed, and heavily corrugated, radiating out from the center in a tidy rosette. When the plant is happy and mature, it sends up slender, greenish-white flower spikes that add to its quirky charm. It stays small and bushy, rarely outgrowing a desk or shelf.

Give it medium to bright indirect light (direct sun mutes the color), water only when the top inch or two dries out, and use a light, well-draining mix. Like other peperomias, its biggest dislike is soggy soil.

Colorful and non-toxic, it’s an easy, pet-safe way to add a pop of red to a plant shelf.

How is Peperomia Rosso different from other peperomias?

  • Its leaf undersides are a bold wine-red, contrasting with glossy green tops.
  • Narrow, deeply grooved leaves form a neat, radiating rosette.
  • It reads as one of the most colorful compact peperomias.
  • Like all peperomias, it’s pet-friendly and low-fuss.

Note: Peperomias are considered non-toxic and pet-friendly. Grown for ornamental purposes and not intended for human or animal consumption.
