TENDER LOVING CARE
Mums are a favorite fall flower for many reasons. They are resilient, beautiful and they have a sweet and spicy scent. Mums require lots of direct sunlight, at least 6 hours per day. They will bloom when they have the perfect lighting conditions (8 hours of sunlight and 16 hours of darkness).
When growing in a pot, mums need well-drained soil. A potting mix that is 1/3 good potting soil, 1/3 course sand and 1/3 peat moss would work well. Mums need a lot of water because they are in direct sunlight. Water in the morning and also in the evening. Check to see if the soil is dry before watering. They love humidity so if you keep them indoors you will need to keep them near a humidifier.
The minimum temperature is 20 degrees F and the maximum temperature is 90-95 degrees F. Optimal is between 62 and 72 degrees F.
Fertilizing should be done once a month with liquid fertilizer if you are growing it in a pot. Wait a month after planting the seedlings and stop before the buds open.
