Hoya Kerrii Variegated
Hoya kerrii (variegated) · Native to Southeast Asia
The beloved “Sweetheart Plant” in its brighter, variegated form — thick, succulent heart-shaped leaves edged and centered in creamy yellow. Slow-growing, low-maintenance, and pet-friendly, it’s a charming gift or shelf plant.
Available in 5 inchCare
Light
Prefers bright, indirect light. Too much direct sun burns the leaves; too little and it loses its variegation.
Water
Water when the soil is dry to the touch. It dislikes wet roots — let it dry between waterings to prevent rot. No need to fuss over humidity.
Soil & Feeding
Use a well-draining mix with pumice and/or perlite. Feed twice a month with a complete liquid fertilizer diluted to quarter strength through spring and summer.

Plant Bio
Hoya kerrii (variegated) · the Variegated Sweetheart Hoya
This is the variegated form of Hoya kerrii, the succulent “Sweetheart Plant” native to Southeast Asia. It has all the charm of the green Kerrii — thick, glossy, heart-shaped leaves — with the added glow of creamy-yellow variegation running through the center and margins.
Like the green form it’s slow-growing and famously undemanding, storing water in its plump leaves. A full plant will, over time, send out vining stems and can eventually produce the clusters of fragrant, star-shaped wax flowers hoyas are loved for.
The one extra consideration: variegated plants have less chlorophyll, so they need good bright, indirect light to keep those creamy markings — but not so much direct sun that the pale areas scorch. Let it dry fully between waterings in a chunky, well-draining mix.
Cheerful, collectible, and pet-safe, it’s a lovely gift plant.
How is it different from the green Kerrii?
- Creamy-yellow variegation brightens the classic heart-shaped leaf.
- Needs more light than the green form to keep its color.
- Pale areas can scorch in harsh direct sun.
- Otherwise just as slow, tough, and pet-friendly.
Note: Hoyas are considered non-toxic and pet-friendly. Grown for ornamental purposes and not intended for human or animal consumption.
