Care

Light

Thrives in bright, indirect light — avoid direct sun, which can scorch its delicate variegated leaves. Good light also helps it hold its white variegation.

Water

Water when the top 1–2 inches of soil are dry, and make sure the pot drains well to prevent root rot.

Soil & Feeding

Use a well-draining, airy mix (potting soil with perlite and orchid bark). Fertilize every 4 weeks during the growing season.

Plant Bio

Philodendron erubescens ‘White Princess’

The White Princess is a prized, collectible philodendron derived from Philodendron erubescens, whose parent species come from the tropical regions of South America. It’s grown almost entirely for its dramatic variegation: upright, deep-green leaves streaked and splashed with creamy white, often with flecks of pink on the stems and new growth.

Every leaf is unique, and no two plants variegate the same way — part of what makes it so sought-after among houseplant collectors.

Because the white sections have no chlorophyll, it needs plenty of bright, indirect light to stay healthy and keep producing variegated growth (too little light and it reverts to green; direct sun scorches the white). Water when the top inch or two dries, use a loose, airy, well-draining mix, and feed monthly in the growing season.

Rare, elegant, and air-purifying, it’s a showpiece plant that rewards a little extra care — just keep it away from pets and children, as philodendrons are toxic if chewed.

Why collectors love the White Princess

  • Bold white variegation, often with pink accents.
  • Every leaf is different; highly collectible.
  • Needs bright indirect light to keep its variegation.
  • Toxic if ingested; sap can irritate skin.

Note: Toxic if ingested and the sap can irritate skin and mouth. Keep away from pets and children. Grown for ornamental purposes and not intended for human or animal consumption.
