Plant Bio

Mammillaria elongata rubra · also called the Copper King

Mammillaria elongata rubra is a color variant of the widely cultivated Lady Finger Cactus, native to central Mexico. It has been selected and propagated for its warm copper-red to bronze spine coloring.

In all other ways it behaves identically to the golden-spined form — clustering freely, growing in slender fingers, and producing small flowers in spring.

The copper-red spine color is particularly vivid in full, direct sun, creating a warm, glowing mass of color when the plant is well grown and properly lit.

What makes it special?

  • Copper-red to bronze spines are significantly warmer and more vivid than the golden form.
  • Particularly striking in direct sun, which intensifies the spine color.
  • Contrasts beautifully with the golden form if displayed together as a pair.

Note: Fine spines can irritate skin — handle with care. Keep away from children and pets. Grown for ornamental purposes only.
