Moon Valley is a selection of Pilea involucrata, a low-growing evergreen native to the humid rainforests of Central and South America. It’s closely related to the popular Chinese Money Plant and Aluminum Plant, and shares their easy, compact nature.
Its name says it all: the leaves are deeply quilted and textured — a landscape of tiny ridges and valleys — in bright apple-green, deepening to coppery bronze along the sunken veins. The plant stays low and bushy, forming a dense mound of that unmistakable crinkled foliage.
It likes bright, indirect light, soil kept evenly moist (but not soggy), and a bit of humidity. Pinch it back to keep it full, and it will happily fill a small pot. It’s a fast, rewarding grower and easy to propagate from cuttings.
