Plant Bio
Cereus peruvianus monstrosus compactus · also called the Curiosity Plant
Cereus peruvianus monstrosus compactus is a horticultural selection of the common Peruvian Apple Cactus, chosen for its monstrose growth mutation — a condition where the growing points multiply irregularly, creating a sculptural, lumpy form.
The normal Peruvian Apple Cactus is a tall, ribbed, blue-green columnar cactus. The monstrose compact form throws out irregular, blobby growth in unpredictable directions while staying more manageable in size.
Despite its unusual appearance, it is just as easy to grow as the normal form — and its quirky, sculptural appearance makes it a genuine conversation piece in any collection.
What makes it special?
- A monstrose mutation — each plant’s growth pattern is uniquely unpredictable and one-of-a-kind.
- Stays more compact than the normal Cereus peruvianus, which can grow very large.
- One of the most commonly available monstrose cacti, making it accessible to beginners.
Note: Has reduced but present spines — handle with care. Keep away from children and pets. Grown for ornamental purposes only.
