Plant Bio

Mammillaria magnimamma · also called the Large-nippled Mammillaria

Native to the dry scrublands of central Mexico, Mammillaria magnimamma is one of the more commonly encountered and easy-to-grow Mammillarias, widely appreciated for its adaptability and free-clustering nature.

Its tubercles are notably large — “magnimamma” means “large nipple” — giving it a coarser, more textural appearance than many of its relatives. The plant clusters freely and prolifically, producing spreading mounds of rounded heads.

It blooms reliably with cream to pale pink flowers during the growing season and is one of the most forgiving Mammillarias for indoor conditions.

What makes it special?

  • Notably large tubercles give it a distinctive, coarser texture than most Mammillarias.
  • One of the most freely clustering Mammillarias — develops into impressive mounds over time.
  • More adaptable to indoor low-light conditions than many pincushion cacti.

Note: Has fine spines — handle with care. Keep away from children and pets. Grown for ornamental purposes only.
