Plant Bio
Sedum nussbaumerianum · Golden / Coppertone Sedum
Golden Sedum is Sedum nussbaumerianum, a sun-loving stonecrop native to Mexico (closely related to — and often sold alongside — the Coppertone sedums). It’s grown above all for its warm, glowing color.
Its leaves are plump and pointed, gathered into loose rosettes along stems that lengthen and trail as the plant grows. Green in shade, they ignite into brilliant copper, gold, and orange under strong sun — the brighter the light, the warmer the glow. Clusters of fragrant white star-shaped flowers can appear in the cooler months.
It’s fast, forgiving, and effortless to propagate, which makes it a favorite groundcover and a great “spiller” in hanging baskets and mixed containers.
Care is simple: the more sun, the more color; gritty soil; and water only when fully dry.
What makes it special?
- It turns vivid copper-gold and orange in strong light.
- Its trailing stems make it versatile for baskets, beds, and pots.
- It’s pet-friendly and propagates almost effortlessly.
Note: Sedums like this are generally considered non-toxic and pet-safe, but are grown for ornament rather than eating. The main care risk is overwatering — keep it dry between drinks.
