Gasteria Okavango
Gasteria ‘Okavango’ · Hybrid (parents from South Africa)
A compact, symmetrical gasteria cultivar with richly patterned, spotted leaves. A collector’s favorite that’s tough, pet-friendly, and one of the few succulents truly happy in lower light.
Available in 4½ inchCare
Light
Thrives in bright, indirect light and is one of the most adaptable gasterias, tolerating lower light with ease — ideal for desks, shelves, and indoor spaces. Avoid harsh midday sun, which can scorch the leaves.
Water
Water only when the soil is completely dry. Like all gasterias, it stores water in its thick, fleshy leaves and is very drought-tolerant. Always use a pot with drainage holes to prevent root rot.
Soil & Feeding
Use a well-draining cactus or succulent soil, and fertilize lightly once a month during spring and summer for healthy, steady growth.
Quick Tip
Water at the soil, keeping the leaves dry — moisture sitting in the leaf grooves can lead to spots or rot.

Plant Bio
Gasteria ‘Okavango’
Gasteria Okavango is a cultivated Gasteria, the South African genus of fleshy-leaved succulents closely related to aloes and haworthias. Gasterias are named for their stomach-shaped (“gasteroid”) flowers, and they’re renowned for being among the most shade-tolerant of all succulents.
This selection forms a compact, symmetrical rosette of thick, dark green leaves, richly patterned with raised pale spots and bands. The neat form and bold texture are exactly what make it such a collector’s favorite.
It’s tough and forgiving — storing water in its leaves, asking for very little, and thriving in the kind of lower indoor light that most succulents can’t handle. Over time it offsets into a small cluster.
Care is easy: bright indirect light (or even moderate light), gritty soil, and water only when fully dry.
What makes it special?
- A neat, symmetrical rosette with bold spotted patterning.
- It tolerates low light better than almost any other succulent.
- It’s tough, forgiving, and pet-friendly.
Note: Gasterias are generally considered non-toxic and pet-safe, but are grown for ornament rather than eating. Overwatering is the main thing to avoid.
