Plant Bio

Espostoopsis dybowskii · also called Austrocephalocereus dybowskii

Native to the dry Caatinga scrubland of Bahia, Brazil, Espostoopsis dybowskii is a columnar cactus that has evolved a dense covering of long white spines as protection from the intense solar radiation of one of the world’s driest tropical forests.

The result is one of the most visually dramatic cacti — a tall, shaggy column draped in silky white that catches and diffuses light beautifully, looking almost like a living sculpture.

It is a slow-growing but long-lived species, gradually building an impressive column that becomes more dramatic with age.

What makes it special?

  • Native to the Brazilian Caatinga — one of the world’s driest tropical forests.
  • The white hair-like spines are longer and silkier than most “old man” cacti.
  • One of the few Espostoopsis species in cultivation — a genuine collector’s rarity.

Note: Has hidden sharp spines beneath the white hair — handle with care. Keep away from children and pets. Grown for ornamental purposes only.
