Plant Bio
Sedum tetractinum · Chinese Sedum
Chinese Stonecrop is a low, spreading sedum native to China, where it grows over rocks and slopes as a tough, mat-forming groundcover. Like other stonecrops, it’s built to thrive in lean, gritty spots where little else will.
Its leaves are small, flat, and almost coin-shaped, carried along trailing stems that spread out and root as they go. In bright light and cooler weather the green foliage flushes with coppery-bronze tones, and in summer it can be topped with small yellow, star-shaped flowers.
It’s fast, forgiving, and easy to propagate — a single dropped stem will happily root and start a new patch — which makes it a favorite filler and “spiller” in mixed succulent containers.
Care couldn’t be simpler: bright light, gritty soil, and sparing water.
How is it different from other succulents?
- It spreads into a low, trailing mat rather than forming a single rosette or column.
- Its flat, coin-shaped leaves bronze attractively in sun.
- It roots easily from stems, making it an effortless groundcover and filler.
Note: Generally considered non-toxic and very easy to grow, but raised for ornament rather than eating. Keep care consistent and enjoy.
